Why I became an engineer?
When I was little, I had always wanted to be an inventor. When I grew up, I realized that "inventor" is not really a profession, so I decided to pick what seemed like the next closest thing. I simply love the thought of taking parts and ideas and making something new that did not exist before. It seems almost magical to me. One of my other great inspirations came from a book series, written by my favorite author, Orson Scott Card, called The Tales of Alvin Maker. These books are not exactly about engineering, but if you read them, I think you'd see the connection. They are great books, and I highly recommend them.
My favorite thing about Theta Tau?
The way it brings together like-minded
individuals, who are all focused on common goals. This is an extremely powerful
force. Putting a group of people together with the same ideas fuels those
ideas and allows them to grow quickly. It's a phenomenon called group think,
and we've all seen cases of its negative effects (the Bush administration).
But when the ideals of the group are positive things like a desire to be
successful in engineering, development of a fraternal brotherhood, and service
to those in need, great things can be achieved.
Sporting and Outdoor activities?
I'm a soccer player, mostly. I also
wrestled in high school, and swam for many years before that. I enjoy getting
outside, like for a game of basketball, every once in a while, although
sometimes it is hard to find the time.
Hobbies:
I like to collect movies and TV
shows. I'm a big fan of that kind of entertainment. I also enjoy building
little things, here and there. I also like to find things to read that tickle
my brain and make me think.
If I wasn't an engineer, I would pursue...
Well, when I was a kid, in addition
to wanting to be an inventor, I also wanted to be a comedian. I'm pretty
sure that this desire came from the fact that I liked things that were funny,
not necessarily because I was funny myself, so I'm not sure how successful
I would be at that. Well, I am very much a left-brained person, so I would
probably lean toward something like physics or mathematics. Maybe I would
like to turn an interest into a profession and become a quantum physicist.
